Car Thief Who Crashed On 5 Freeway, Fled On Foot Arrested

A car thief that crashed a stolen vehicle and then ran away on foot last month has been arrested. 

Kyle Sorenson, 37, of Canyon Country, was arrested on Thursday in connection with a 5 Freeway crash involving a stolen vehicle where the driver fled on foot, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. 

“He was also identified to be responsible for a separate, unrelated, vehicle theft which took place on (March 6)  at 24940 Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch. 

5 Freeway Crash

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, deputies located a stolen vehicle on Town Center Drive near Valencia Boulevard, Once the suspect spotted deputies, he fled, according to Arriaga. 

The pursuit was canceled after Sorenson drove recklessly at over 80 mph, potentially endangering deputies and civilians. 

Approximately 5 minutes after the pursuit was canceled, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 5 Freeway near Calgrove Boulevard, according to the CHP logs. 

The driver, now identified as Sorenson, fled the crash scene on foot. 

Sorenson was booked for his two warrants and additional charges are pending further investigation.
