Enrollment for the late-start classes opens March 27, and the courses will be held in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid (part in-class and online) to accommodate the needs of all students.
“College of the Canyons is mindful of the busy and demanding schedules of our students,” said Jerry Buckley, assistant superintendent/vice president of academic affairs for COC. “We are committed to helping our students reach their academic and career goals, no matter where they are in life.”
The late-start semester is set to begin as early as April 10 — the start date varies by course visit the full list of open classes.
Bundled classes in real estate and business are available to help students build discrete skill sets through paired coursework.
A weekend “Realtor 101” package of classes will include an interior design course on Home Staging on Fridays, Real Estate Principles and Real Estate Practices hybrid courses on Saturdays, and an online Photography class.
On Saturday mornings, business-minded students can benefit from the “Get Started on Your Business degree” set of offerings that include the Introduction to Business class (BUS 100) and the Principles of Marketing class (BUS 140) — requirements for many COC business degrees and certificates.
These hybrid classes are also paired with a Business English class (CAWT 115), which is a high demand class for both business and computer applications majors.
Students can choose to enroll in one or all of the packaged classes.
The spring semester schedule of late-start classes also includes several general education, basic skills and career technical education (CTE) courses. Subjects include: English, early childhood education, economics, computer science, geography, geology, history, mathematics, photography, statistics, sociology, water systems, culinary arts, and graphic design.
Spring late start classes will be held through April and May. Registration will remain open until classes are filled.
Students who choose to enroll in a late-start class at the college will also have the added benefit of being classified as a “returning student” prior to the upcoming summer session registration period.
The current enrollment for COC is 31,134 — up almost a thousand from last year’s enrollment, according to the Public Information Office.
In 2016, COC had the college’s largest graduating class in college history with 1,766 students – an increase of 21 percent over the prior year, according to the 2016 annual report.
