Akop Oganesyan, 32, of Canyon Country, was set to meet a man Tuesday to buy a Toyota Tacoma on the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.

The only problem: Oganesyan was reportedly trying to sell a Bell Gardens man his own truck back to him.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, was supposed to meet Oganesyan around 4:15 p.m. in the Canyon Country shopping center.

About that time, Santa Clarita deputies received a call from the victim who reported that Oganesyan had stolen his truck more than a week ago near the victim’s Bell Gardens home.

When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect, who was standing next to the vehicle in a black t-shirt with “Police K-9 Unit” lettering and a replica law enforcement badge on his waistband, took off running through the parking lot.

And that’s when a good samaritan stepped in to help.

A Santa Clarita resident saw the suspect running from deputies and pursued him on foot, tackling the suspect.

After the 21-year-old man tackled the suspect, deputies detained the suspect without further incident.

Oganesyan was arrested on carjacking and impersonating a police officer charges.

The suspect’s bail was set at $100,000.

There is no further information available at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff’s officials also issued an alert in response to meetups online, encouraging local residents to use the Sheriff’s Station parking lot, or the parking lot of the adjacent library, for any meetups with strangers for the buying, selling and trading of goods.
