After partnering with VSP Vision Care, Acosta was able to give 27 certificates to prescreened patients.

VSP Vision Care is a vision care health insurance company that operates worldwide to provide cost-effective eye care coverage.

“It’s been almost seven years that I haven’t had glasses,” said Denise Maldonado, a NEVHC patient. “With this, I can go ahead and get them before my vision gets worse.”

In the U.S., 61 million adults are at high risk for vision loss, but factors like affordability and lack of vision care benefits prevent many from seeking eye care, according to Northeast Valley Health Corporation officials.

“We’re out here making sure people have access to eye care that normally wouldn’t be able to do that,” said Acosta. “It’s an honor to be able to do this.”

Bringing this service gives the community local access to vision care that is otherwise difficult to obtain.

“We really appreciate your support (because) we love to help our patients,” said Missy Nitescu, chief operations officer for Northeast Valley Health Corporation.

Northeast Valley Health Corporation’s Newhall Health Center is located at 23413 Lyons Ave.
