Deputies Arrest Two In Newhall For Felony Drug Sale Charges

Deputies arrested two individuals in Newhall Monday morning for allegedly being in possession of narcotics for sale, officials said.

Around 1 a.m., deputies were conducting a patrol check at the Park and Ride that is located at Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies made contact with an adult male and an adult female in a sedan,” she said. “While speaking to the male adult, deputies observed that he was exhibiting signs of being under the influence.”

After further investigation, deputies found the couple to allegedly be in possession of methamphetamine, narcotics paraphernalia, a large quantity of U.S. currency and items consistent with that of narcotic sales, Miller said.

Michael Scudder, 53, of Sylmar, and Jenifer Cononico, 42, of Northridge, were both arrested and charged with multiple felony narcotics charges, including possession of a controlled substance for sales.

Both suspects were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where they were booked, according to officials.

Scudder’s bail was set at $34,250 and Cononico’s bail was set at $32,250, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
