Elderly Person Physically Assaulted Multiple Times, Suspect In Custody

A Canyon Country man is spending his birthday in jail after he allegedly attacked an elderly person several times, sending them to the hospital over the weekend.

Around 7:10 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 25600 block of Dorado Drive in Newhall regarding an elderly abuse call, said Deputy Kabrina Borbon, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported that the suspect physically assaulted the victim multiple times causing injuries,” Borbon said. “The (66 year old) victim  was treated at a local hospital.”

Nicholas Escarcega, now 41, from Canyon Country was detained and arrested on one count of felony elder abuse, according to Borbon.

Escarcega was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Monday afternoon, which happens to be his birthday.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
