Think Ten Media Group, a local production house, recently teamed up with the budding filmmaker to help her produce her vision.

“I felt so excited to see what it was like working with professionals behind the scenes,” said Fulmer regarding her experiences working with Think Ten Media. “I’m enamored with learning how things work, and getting to go through the process of creating this film has truly been an amazing experience.”

Jennifer Fischer, producer of “Rachel’s Pitch” and co-founder of Think Ten Media Group, talked about the production and how the project got started.

“Think Ten Media Group has always been passionate about empowering young filmmakers,” Fischer said Tuesday, “so it was natural for us to respond positively when Julia’s mother reached out to us about our company working with Julia to producer her first professional short film.”

Think Ten and Fulmer paired up for this production last summer, when Fulmer’s mother called Think Ten Media because she was interested in registering her daughter for the “Spotlight On Hope Film Camp” offered online.

“It felt so welcoming just walking onto the set,” Fulmer said, describing what it’s like on a professional set. “You could immediately tell that everybody was extremely dedicated to doing their best on this project, not to mention the incredible fun we had.”

The program offered free filmmaking courses for pediatric cancer patients and their siblings, but when Think Ten and Fulmer’s mother spoke, they realized her passion and ability to make a short film.

At age 16, Fulmer has written and directed her first professional short film with the guidance of Think Ten Media Group and a nearly all-female crew.

“We wanted Julia to see that women work in all aspects of the film industry — to see women behind the camera and doing a wide variety of jobs on set,” Fischer said. “Ultimately, our crew was not 100 percent women, but was dominated by women, with strong leadership from our talented cinematographer, Senda Bonnet.”

Fulmer directed “Rachel’s Pitch” this summer after recovering from hip replacement surgery.

The film was shot in three days at two locations in the Santa Clarita Valley, one of which is SCVi Charter School.

The team is now in post-production and has started a crowdfunding campaign on Seed&Spark to help with the final color and sound design cost.
