The area, which is located at Lyons Avenue and Main Street in Newhall, had previously been used for public parking; however, the site was fenced off Wednesday morning in preparation for environmental remediation, said Gail Morgan, a city spokesperson.
“We’re doing some testing on the site,” Morgan said, specifying that the remediation will take place where the parking structure is planned to be. “It’s just some pre-work before the actual construction.”
The area is expected to be closed for approximately one month while the environmental remediation process is completed.

City officials acquired the full city block of property in Old Town Newhall in November 2008, with the vision of constructing a theater, combined with retail space, residential units and a public parking structure.
On Feb. 9, the Santa Clarita City Council approved plans to move forward on the project for the second time with a 3-1 vote, with Councilman TimBen Boydston being the only council member who voted against it.
Councilwoman Laurene Weste recused herself from voting on the item due to the close proximity of her home to the project site.
“We’re really excited to get started on this project,” Morgan said.

What happens to the Farmer’s market that occupied this location on Saturday? Did it move or close?
It moved to the library parking lot across the street.
The way I remember it is that the area which required required remediation was being sold to Serrano development and they were required to clean up that area.. Let’s get the real story.
What kind of theater will it be?
Laemmle theaters are not only regular movie theaters; but, a very unique type of theater that is used for independent films, short films, and documentaries to be shown. So glad it’s coming to town!
When is the theater projected to be built and start showing movies. Looking forward to different movies as shown at the two Regal theaters.
