Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital gave a sneak preview of the Henry Mayo Fitness and Health center to guests and patients looking to become some of the first members of the center this weekend.
The presale signup event took place over the weekend of Jan. 16 – 17 and those interested could meet staff who will work in the facility as well as the general manager, Bill Holstein
Holstein emphasized the dual role of the facility, and the number of ways patients can interact with physicians in the building.
“We’re going to have a variety of different programs,” he said. “Clinical integration, moving people from physical therapy over into a regular fitness routine for a healthy life, life extension, body transformation, all those different options.”
The Fitness and Health center serves a dual purpose in the community.
It is both a fully stocked and staffed physical therapy center, designed to help residents regain function of their bodies and a fitness clinic, where both those same people and others in the community can work out and participate in a variety of other activities, including cooking classes, to lead healthier lifestyles.
“It seems ironic,” said Patrick Moody, director of marketing and community engagement at Henry Mayo, “but the entire idea is to keep people healthy and ideally keep them from having to come to the hospital.”

One of the things that makes the facility unique is the qualified staff that will be assisting in both areas of the facility.
“All the staff here are certified and trained,” said Holstein. “They all have degrees.”
Moody agreed
“I don’t think there is any other facility with staff as qualified as what we will have here,” he said.
The leadership of the company believes that the facility will change lives in the community.
“To make a difference in the lives of individuals both before they leave the hospital as well as throughout life,” said Roger Seaver, CEO and president of Henry Mayo, “is a great incentive for us.”
The fitness club area of the Henry Mayo Fitness and Health Center is scheduled to open on June 1, with the physical therapy area scheduled to open shortly after.
