If you are a caregiver of someone with Alzheimer’s disease, and you notice the disease starting to worsen, who do you turn to? These support groups are here to help, according to Ferrante.

“People in the group may be going through the same thing that you are,” he said. “You are sitting in a circle with people who are going through the same thing and people really need to think about that — there’s empathy versus sympathy.”

The team at Home Care Services Santa Clarita organizes effective communication strategies for Alzheimer’s caregivers, and offers literature and resources at their office.

They can also arrange a free consultation with a social worker from the Alzheimer’s Association, according to Ferrante.

“Every 63 seconds, somebody is diagnosed in this country with Alzheimer’s,” he said. “It is staggering — literally exploding. We need to make sure that the quality of life for those folks that have this disease and those who are caring for them is good.”
