“This is a plea for help,” said Rick Ferrante, committee chair and president of Home Care Services Santa Clarita. “We’re looking for help to focus on the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association, which doesn’t really have a presence here.”Home Care Services Santa Clarita

The committee will focus on education about Alzheimer’s disease in the SCV community, fundraising for research to find a cure, advocacy with local leaders and government officials and support for those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, their families and caregivers.

Community members with an interest or skill set in any of those areas are invited to contact Home Care Services to find out how they can help.

“It’s just a few hours here and there to work with some likeminded people that are on that same kind of mission that can bring those skills … and talents into building and forming and establishing this standing committee that does all of those things,” Ferrante said.

One primary fundraising event the committee will focus on is the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association, which was held Sept. 20 at Bridgeport Park.

While the next walk isn’t until next year, the existing committee has plans to make the event “bigger and better,” according to Ferrante.

“In our industry, in my business, we see (Alzheimer’s disease) all the time, and there’s a lot of people that are personally touched by it,” he said. “If you’re looking for that cause that will help those situations of so many people right here in this valley … we’re looking for local support, we’re looking for local business support, we’re looking for individuals, but to begin with we’re looking to build this committee. So please join us. Just give me a call.”

  1. I am not sure what you need, but I’m interested in helping if I can on the Alzheimer’s committee.
