A GoFundMe page was created Monday to support the family of Newhall Fire Captain Wayne Stuart Habell after his death.

“All donations will go directly to his wife to cover funeral costs and any other expenses that may come up,” said Adam Clint, a fellow firefighter who set up the fundraising page.
On Monday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office confirmed that 43-year-old Habell had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“He was a proud father of three, and a wonderful and patient husband,” said Clint. “He was my ‘brother’ on the squad and we shared our share of good times and bad.”

The Station 73 firefighter’s body was found not far from where authorities had discovered an SUV registered to Habell in a rural area of Montecito.
“We as first responders know how difficult it is to lose a loved one,” said Clint. “It is even more difficult because we know exactly what the family is going through.”
When Habell first went missing, initial reports indicated that he had been suffering from depression at the time of his disappearance last Monday.
Habell had last been seen leaving his Newhall home on the morning of August 14, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
It was believed the father of three was heading to the L.A. Fitness in Stevenson Ranch when he last left home.
The missing fire captain’s Black Chrysler Aspen was found over 70 miles away in Santa Barbara County Friday.
The fire captain had served in Station 73 in Newhall, and had been with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 13 years.
The GoFundMe page can be found here.
“If you can’t make a donation, please donate an act of kindness to someone you love, or to a complete stranger. Compassion goes a long way,” added Clint.
