Prussia, a band from North Hollywood, is scheduled to perform a free concert at Santa Clarita’s Concerts in the Park on Saturday.

The four-piece band features a female vocalist and a rhythmic instrumental section. Prussia blends blues, funk and soul in their music, and have been described as “West Coast funk,” event organizers said.

“My secret master plan was to eventually get to Concerts in the Park, because growing up here, it’s such a big deal,” said Julian Ho, the band’s drummer. “There are a lot of people. It’s great.”

The band members met while studying music in Hollywood, and have since won two Downbeat Student Awards for Outstanding Performance in the Pop/Rock/Blues category, according to their website. 

Prussia released “Glory Days,” their first EP, in 2016. They recently released their single “Hello,” and plan to release more singles this year, band members said.

“Right now we have almost 20 songs. We also play covers to pay homage to our roots,” Ho said. “We just like playing them. We like playing good funk music.”

Concerts in the Park is set to be their biggest performance, and the band is looking forward to playing in Central Park, members said.

“It’s fun. They don’t really have original bands, so I wanted to bring what I’ve put together in L.A. back to Santa Clarita,” Ho said.

Prussia is scheduled to perform their free concert on July 20 at 7 p.m. at Central Park. For more information, visit the event website here.
