The cause of the fire remained unknown Tuesday while the investigation continues, said Vanessa Lozano of the LACoFD.

Firefighters stopped forward progress on the blaze by 2:31 p.m. Monday, less than two hours after it was first reported around 1 p.m.

Then Fire personnel worked to contain the fire and mop up any hot spots through Tuesday evening, officials said.

The Pico Fire burned in the unincorporated Santa Susana Mountains near Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch. Fire officials did not call for evacuations, but warned nearby residents to be ready.

Residents in the area watched as helicopters and firefighters worked quickly during 106-degree temperatures to contain the blaze.

Due to the high ambient temperatures, three firefighters were treated for minor heat-related injuries.

Approximately 200 firefighters, several helicopters and aircraft responded to the Pico Fire, according to Fire officials.

A landing site was set up on the top of Poe Parkway to allow responding helicopters to refill their water tanks. They were released from the incident shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday.
