Providence Health has granted a total of $400,000 to nonprofits in Santa Clarita and the San Fernando Valley through their Mother Joseph Fund, officials said Wednesday.
Named for Mother-Joseph Pariseau of the sisters of Providence, who formed Providence Health & Services in 1869, the fund aims to serve the homeless, victims of domestic violence, the blind and others in need throughout Los Angeles, according to officials.
“Providence is committed to health for a better world, to connecting to our communities by promoting wellness and addressing the social determinants of health,” said Sister Nancy Jurecki, OP, chief mission integration officer for Providence St. Joseph Health, Southern California. “The needs in our communities are growing and it is evident we must work together with the like-minded partners to meet those needs.”

The organizations that applied for the funding described how they would pull together their resources after receiving the donation.
A large portion of the money that was compiled went towards services for the growing homeless population in the valley and surrounding communities, as well as towards children from low-income families, the disabled, the elderly and fragile infants in need of follow-up medical care, officials said.
On the composed list of organizations that were chosen, an advisory group from the hospitals’ Valley Community Ministry Board’s Mission Committee chose these organizations to receive grants. Two are from the Santa Clarita Valley, including the Northeast Valley Health Center and the Valley Care Consortium.
