Ed. Note: The following is a news release provided by the city of Santa Clarita.

A free hazard mitigation public workshop will allow Santa Clarita city planning officials to assess the Hazard Mitigation Plan and ways to reduce the risk of local hazards such as wildfires and earthquakes through feedback provided by residents.

The event will be hosted by the city of Santa Clarita in the Santa Clarita Activities Center on Sept. 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

As part of the public process, every five years the city of Santa Clarita evaluates the city’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, which implements damage prevention efforts to lessen the impact of natural disasters, including earthquakes, wildfires, floods and more, on residents’ lives and property. As a guiding document, the plan also helps secure local eligibility for pre/post-disaster Federal mitigation funding.

In addition to informing local residents of Santa Clarita’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, the workshop will also offer attendees the opportunity to address concerns and gain an understanding of the local natural hazard risks. Resident feedback received at the workshop will allow City planning officials to update Santa Clarita’s mitigation goals to closely align with the concerns of the community.
