“This annual event brings together local leaders, community members, businesses and families for a memorable evening that kicks off the season of giving,” said event officials.
Traditionally, when the red kettles and bell ringers make an appearance, the fundraising efforts begin.
Tippi Hedren, an actress who was discovered by director Alfred Hitchcock, kicked off the event this year by ringing the bell and making the first donation.
During the event, guests were able to enjoy live music, snacks and the company of community members.
The Salvation Army collects spare change and donations to provide basic social services to more than 4,900 people each year, according to officials.
The organization helps families in need in the form of grocery orders, utility assistance and emergency lodging.
“In 2017, the Santa Clarita SCV Corps provided groceries to more than 370 families, along with toys and winter coats to more than 2,000 children,” said Salvation Army Santa Clarita officials.
All money donated by the organization will stay in the Santa Clarita Valley to help families in need, according to officials.
