Detectives with Santa Clarita’s “COBRA” team participated in a neighborhood clean-up operation in Valencia and Newhall on Thursday.
On Thursday, April 18, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s gang and juvenile crime team, “COBRA,” investigated the Newhall and Valencia areas as part of a neighborhood clean-up operation.
The COBRA team set out to investigate reported concerns they received from residents around the Santa Clarita Valley about problem areas in their neighborhoods.
Residents coming forward reported areas where they witnessed people loitering, drinking alcohol, using drugs, and in some cases committing vandalism, according to officials.
The COBRA detectives partnered with staff from the City of Santa Clarita Code Enforcement Department, along with a Los Angeles County Probation Officer as part of the special operation.
According to a post from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Facebook page, three out of four locations visited by investigators had reported probationers that were found to be in violation of their probationary terms.
COBRA detectives were also reported to be conducting surveillance at public parks in the Newhall and Valencia communities.
Officials reported a dozen people were detained and interviewed during a patrol operation that was conducted on the 24000 block of Pine Street in Newhall. Two out of those dozen people were arrested for using methamphetamine.
To conclude their Thursday night, the COBRA team arrested a total of three individuals on felonies, two on misdemeanors, and issued two citations to separate individuals. Aside from arrests and citations, multiple violations were recorded and are set to be followed up by law enforcement officials.
