Santa Clarita Experiences Low Gas Price Streak

Los Angeles County, including the Santa Clarita Valley, is experiencing a streak of decreasing gas prices spanning over 40 days following record high prices in April, according to officials.

In mid-April, California, including Santa Clarita, experienced the most expensive prices in the nation due to planned and unplanned maintenance on refineries, according to officials.

However, oil prices are currently more than 20 percent lower than they were a year ago in June and California refineries are experiencing the highest productivity since November 2018, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California officials.

“We expect pump prices to continue dropping,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.

Though prices are in a downward trend, residents are set to pay more for gas due to additional taxes set to take effect days before Independence Day, according to officials.

The new gas tax, which comes from Senate Bill 1, is set to take effect by July 1, according to the California Legislative Information.

Drivers are encouraged to find gas stations with fare rates while prices drop, according to Spring.

Drivers in Saugus can find gas for $3.59 at United Oil on Bouquet Canyon Road, whereas in late April, prices were at $3.89.

Newhall Gas on Lyons Avenue offers the cheapest gas in the western area of Newhall, though this price is only available to patrons with cash.

Santa Clarita motorists in Canyon Country can expect to find the cheapest regular gas at either Costco or Sam’s Club for $3.39. Those without memberships to these clubs can find fuel for $3.65 at USA Gasoline on Soledad Canyon Road, according to a smartphone application called GasBuddy.

Residents in Valencia can find gas at $3.39/gallon at Arco on Valencia Blvd. and Bouquet Canyon Road.
