Santa Clarita deputies arrested a 22-year-old man Wednesday for allegedly driving under the influence with a loaded firearm in his vehicle.

Around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy observed a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving on Valencia Boulevard near the Westfield Valencia Town Center mall.

“A traffic stop was initiated, and upon contact with the driver, the deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect was allegedly unable to pass a field sobriety test, according to officials.

When deputies searched the suspect’s car, they reportedly discovered an open bottle of Vodka, along with a loaded firearm.

The suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on felony weapons charges and driving under the influence of alcohol.
