A Santa Clarita man was identified after his remains were discovered in the wash near Bouquet Canyon Road last year.

Josh Kyle Rodman would have been 24, when his remains were discovered in the wash on Aug. 31, 2015.

“What we found were a femur and part of a hip,” said Lt. Steve Jauch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. “We were able to identify the victim through DNA evidence.”

Workers hired by the city of Santa Clarita to clean up debris from a homeless encampment in the riverbed found the remains.

There is no reason to believe that (Rodman) died recently, Jauch said when the remains were found.

A cause of death has not been determined by L.A. County Coroner’s officials.

“We do not know cause of death,” Jauch said. “Homicide detectives have spoken with his family. They have been estranged from him for the past two to three years.”

Detectives believe Rodman was homeless and living in the wash when he died.  

“We believe he was probably homeless,” Jauch said, “but we still haven’t been able to find anybody that has had contact with him the last couple of years.
