The Jolly Trolley is set to make its way around Santa Clarita on Saturday, Dec. 19 collecting food and essential personal care donations to be sent to those in need in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Santa Clarita Transit is hosting the event and providing the “trolley”, which is scheduled to make its first stop for donations for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry at 9:30 a.m. at Chesebrough Park and visit four more locations, ending the tour at the Canyon Country Library at 4:30 p.m.
“Often during the holiday season, Santa Clarita Transit collects donations at our Holiday Light Tour,” explained City of Santa Clarita Administrative Analyst Alex Porlier. “While we can’t host the tour this year, we still want to ensure the pantry receives its annual donation.”
The Jolly Trolley is set to make the following stops:
- Chesebrough Park from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
- Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Central Park from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
- The Centre from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
- Canyon Country Library from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.
With more people in need this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic effects, holding an annual food drive was especially important to the city and Santa Clarita Transit, representatives say.
The trolley is set to be decorated for the holiday season, with open side panels allowing residents to see the adornments on the inside of the tram.
Food and personal care donations are planned to be stored on the floor and seats of the bus.
The trolley’s stops were chosen for visibility and accessibility to encourage donations from a variety of residents.
Locations like the Westfield Mall are more visible, while other stops like the one at Chesebrough Park are in residential areas, making them easier to access for those who live in surrounding neighborhoods.
Residents are encouraged to visit the trolley and make donations. A list of commonly needed items is located on the SCV Food Pantry’s website.
Real-time updates on the location of the Jolly Trolley are scheduled to be posted on Santa Clarita Transit’s Twitter page on the day of the event.
Food drive staff are set to wear masks and maintain physical distance. Residents are asked to do the same.
