The theme for this year’s event theme was “This is Diabetes,” and invited all residents with diabetes to share their stories on stage or online.
Hart freshman cheerleader Emma Remnant took the stage to share her story of living with Type 1 diabetes and to thank the American Diabetes Association for their resources and assistance.
“While it hasn’t always been easy, the support they (the American Diabetes Association) provide has made a world of a difference that
many of us don’t even realize,” said Remnant. “It’s events such as these that help raise awareness and promote the research necessary to hopefully one day find a cure.”
Numerous students, families and dogs came out to show their support for the event by walking through the theme park, helping raise nearly $200,000 from the event in the hopes of finding a cure for the disease.
“The American Diabetes Association raises funds to continue to help us find a cure for diabetes in our lifetime,” said American Diabetes Association red strider ambassador Jonna Houston. “It’s not the way it once was… we have hope now and we have strength now and we have a community like all of you all here that is helping us live better and more helpful.”
