The holiday season is known to be a time of giving thanks and exchanging gifts, but it’s also a time when Santa Clarita residents are able to volunteer with the help of community organizations.

Though Cyber Monday and Black Friday may be all about the best deals, the true spirit of the season is in giving back and giving thanks.

Though the Santa Clarita ‘Giving Thanks Giving’ event was cancelled for 2018, other community groups are stepping up to fill the void.

With new opportunities, Santa Clarita nonprofits are encouraging people to give back to their community this holiday season. The list below is a good place to start:

Family Promise

Family Promise is an organization serving homeless families in the Santa Clarita Valley, offering shelter, meals and support to those in need. Volunteers perform a wide range of services, from providing meals and rides for families in need, to assisting in special events.

Their Dec. 15 Holiday Shopping Event gives volunteers an opportunity to get involved and give back. With several volunteer roles available, this event aims to collect food, clothing and hygiene supplies, as well as holiday gifts for low-income and homeless families now through Dec. 14.

SCV Food Pantry

The SCV Food Pantry is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Santa Clarita. Volunteers collect, package and deliver food to those in need throughout the community.

This year, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has partnered with the Reape-Rickett Law Firm to collect donations of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene supplies through Nov. 16.

The North Los Angeles County Volunteer Center also offers an opportunity to get involved with organizations all around Santa Clarita. Their main mission is to connect willing volunteers with local nonprofits for the betterment of the community through education and activism.
