Saugus residents have raised their concerns on social media after a remodeling company salesman disturbed their home despite several signs, including one that mentioned children sleeping.

In a recent Facebook video uploaded by Saugus resident Matthew Funicello, a man is seen walking up to his family’s home.
The man takes a look at the ‘No Soliciting’ sign clearly posted on the door, turns it over to see ‘Please Do Not Disturb, Children Sleeping,’ and then knocks.

After reviewing the video captured on his Ring doorbell system, Funicello voiced his concerns.
“I was really annoyed and at the same time disrespected,” Funicello told KHTS. “I have those signs up for a reason, it’s not because I want to be a grouch.”
Funicello has two small children and a dog, which is why he doesn’t want solicitors knocking on the door and “causing a bunch of ruckus.” He decided to call the business and let them know that their employee had ignored his clearly stated sign.
“I’m not calling for him to be fired or anything, that’s too extreme, but definitely counsel or reprimand,” said Funicello.
This incident was not the first time Funicello had his sign ignored. During the June primaries he had several campaign canvassers knocking on his door.

“When I complained they said they had a first amendment right to knock on my door,” said Funicello. “I completely disagree with that.”
Even though this wasn’t the first time Funicello complained about door knockers, the answer that the supervisor gave him was enough to satisfy him.
“The supervisor said ‘he wasn’t supposed to do that. He knows better. I will take care of it personally,’” Funicello said.

KHTS Radio also called the remodeling company, One Stop Builders, and spoke to the co-owner, Jacob Rahlin, who confirmed the story.
“They’re definitely not supposed to knock on doors when there’s signs with no soliciting,” Rahlin said. “We addressed it and it’s not going to happen again.”
The salesman that had ignored Funicello’s sign was a new employee, he added, but the company does have a one-week trainings on how to deal with homeowners.
After the complaint, the salesman was suspended from the company until he completes the one-week training once more. The incident prompted the owners to speak to all of their employees, going over the soliciting rules again, according to Rahlin.
“Until this incident, we had five-star reviews on Yelp, so we’re trying to meet them personally to apologize for the incident,” Rahlin said.
Funicello said he hopes the company doesn’t lose business because of the viral incident.
“People make mistakes and as long as they learn from them, they should be able to get a second chance,” said Funicello. “I don’t think a company should suffer like that because of an employee’s mistakes.”

Goof for you, Matthew!!! Most of use take this abuse without fighting back. Keep setting a great example!
Slow news day? What’s next, “Man Discovers Bruised Banana At Grocery Store”? You’ve devoted less space to fatal car crashes.
Good for you Matthew! I have No Soliciting and No Trespassing signs posted. They absolutely do NOT have a First amendment right to disturb anyone. Your Home is Private Property! Their rights do not apply on your property. I built a Cement wall with a gate surrounding my front door with my No Soliciting and No Trespassing Signs clearly posted. I have still had idiots come in claiming they don’t know what no soliciting means. I told them it is up to them to look it up before ai call the cops. This idiot who obviously trespassed was on camera being a total jerk. Serves him right! Totally stand with you for posting this!
I’m concerned about the guy who said the canvassers claimed they had a “first amendment right to knock on his door”. Ummm no – private property is private property last time I checked in this country. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with trespassing.
The signage implies the children are always sleeping. That’s stupid. That dings credibility. Get over it.
