A Saugus robbery suspect was arrested Friday morning after allegedly punching a CVS store manager, officials said.

At about 10:45 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a robbery at the CVS on the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus..

The suspect was seen walking into the business removing items off the shelves and placing them inside her backpack, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station spokesperson Natalie Arriaga.

When the manager of the business confronted the suspect, she would not return the items and walked towards the exit, after which the manager and a witness briefly struggled with the suspect to detain her, added Arriaga.

The female shoplifting suspect allegedly struck the store manager in the face after he confronted her while she was attempting to steal soda from the CVS, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Justin Diez.

The suspect, Beatriz Quintero Ortiz, 40, a transient of Santa Clarita, was arrested and booked for robbery with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.

The store manager was offered medical attention by paramedics, but was not transported to the hospital and suffered only minor injuries, according to Diez.
