Mountain View Elementary School’s Jayme Rutter has been selected as the 2016/17 Teacher of the Year by the Saugus Union School District.

“Mrs. Rutter personifies everything we look for in a teacher,” said Dr. Joan Lucid, superintendent of the Saugus Union School District.  “She is a teacher who captivates everyone she comes in contact with and engages her students in learning in a way that makes it both fun and fulfilling. We are so pleased for her and her students.”

Rutter, who teaches second grade at the school, has been at Mountain View for 11 years, and with the SUSD for 12.

“Mountainview is so very proud of Jayme Rutter,” added Kathleen Demsher, principal of Mountainview Elementary. “We have an amazing faculty and staff, and this award demonstrates her, and all of our, dedication to helping to excellence in education.”

She was selected by the principals and administrators of the district in a meeting earlier this week.

“It says a lot about a teacher when a group of people who don’t work with her every day still know enough of her work ethic and reputation to honor her in this way,” said Christine Hamlin, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.  “We feel very privileged to have a teacher of Mrs. Rutter’s caliber at Mountainview.”

The SUSD will honor her with a reception at a future governing board meeting.

“It is always a great day for us when selecting the Teacher of the Year,” said Judy Umeck, President of the SUSD Governing Board. “We are tremendously proud to have a teacher like Mrs. Rutter who exemplifies all our amazing teachers who educate and encourage each of our students in Saugus Union School District.”
