SCVi Charter School Celebrates Student Creativity At ‘Expresstival’ Event (VIDEO)

Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi), a free public charter school based in Castaic, celebrated student creativity at its annual “Expresstival” Festival — an end of the year celebration that allows the students at SCVi to publically showcase a project that they had worked on throughout the school school year.

Each grade had the opportunity to show off their work from the academic year, including highlights from the school’s successful fourth through eighth-grade production of “Shrek: The Musical Jr.”

“At SCVi, we celebrate the skills, talents, and passions that make our learners unique,” said Amber Raskin, CEO and co-founder of SCVi and iLEAD Schools. “The theme of this year’s festival – ‘Express Yourself’ – couldn’t be a better fit for this fun, engaging event, and we’re so excited to welcome the Santa Clarita community to our campus.”

The event also featured an art exhibition, a young entrepreneur fair organized entirely by SCVi students, a talent show, and a Maker Alley featuring art and creative projects.

The event was to showcase the students’ passions through projects, according to Ben Thomas, SCVi Middle School Facilitator.

“We get to show off a lot of the arts, which is a huge part of what I’m passionate about and what a lot of our learners are passionate about,” said Kevin Becker.

SCVi, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, offers a project- and inquiry-based approach to learning and equips students with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in a 21st century world. It is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and is the only school in the Santa Clarita Valley certified to teach the International Baccalaureate curriculum. SCVi is also the founding school of iLEAD Schools, a network of 12 free public charter schools throughout California and the Midwest. To learn more about SCVi, click here.
