Los Angeles County officials voted 4-1 to create a “sensitive locations” policy in L.A., over 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s strong concerns about the “reactionary” move likely to have federal repercussions.

She also voted against a motion to establish a countywide task force that would advise on “immigrant protection and advancement strategy.”
“My concerns are that we continue to debate a policy that’s been in place, by the way, since the prior administration, as it relates to illegal immigration and enforcement of the laws,” she said. “The county operates public spaces, and the discussion is, to me, ‘How can we hide and continue to skirt the issue that, on the federal level, immigration is not being addressed?’ I’m not going to play into this game of ‘hide-and-seek’ with individuals’ lives.”
The “sensitive locations” directive essentially calls upon county staff to craft policy for buildings where county agencies administer social services as “sanctuary areas,” that ignore the supremacy clause and free from Immigration and Customs Enforcement patrols.
The concerns were myriad, due to both potential intended and unintended consequences.
“Creating a task force and hiding illegal immigrants from federal enforcement only institutionalizes their illegal status and forces them further into the shadows,” she said after Tuesday’s vote. “These actions are reactionary and counterproductive in the effort to help individuals seek a path to citizenship or apply for legal status to be in the United States.”
There are also concerns about how the action could potentially affect the county’s ability to fund constituent services if it goes forward with its plans on immigration, she added. She expressed “strong concerns about possible fiscal consequences of non-cooperation by the county with federal law enforcement authorities.”

I wholeheartedly support your position. The potential loss of federal funds cannot be justified by supporting those that are here, in our country, illegally. It is not fair to our county, or, for the whole country for that matter.
Those supporting sanctuary cities, counties, and states are doing so for their own purposes, that’s the only conclusion I can come up with.
Thank you supervisor Barger,-Our family is getting ready to leave
California due to it’s support and ending spending on illegal aliens.
How in the world does anyone believe we should be not enforcing our
own laws in this respect. How in the world did we tax payers become
the keepers of all the illegals? They get free medical, free education
and now most of our politicians are sticking up for this gross misjustice.
It will be interesting to see what happens to our tax base when all the
taxpayers move out of California and it is happening……..Kathy keep up the
good work.
Perfectly stated. I couldn’t agree more with your viewpoint.
I thank you for voting against this immigration insanity. Unfortunately your vote is but a drop in the bucket of slime that California has become!
Personally I am totally disgusted with this “political elite” who think they can foist upon all the citizens of this state their way of thinking. Besides all of the financial insanity their policies have caused that has ruined this state, now they have decided that “they” are the superior beings who know best for all of us.
As a taxpayer I am sick of paying for all of the expenses the illegal immigrants have, are and will be costing us on the city, county and the state levels! The list just keeps being added daily. Will they ever run out of insane, costly ideas to lay on our backs to support their “superior” ideology? Not likely!
The primary group of illegals being targeted for deporation by ICE are felony criminals. Who in the hell wants to keep them here? Sadly the Democrats do! Do they care about the people those criminals will harm in the future? No not at all!
DO THEY HAVE ANY CONCERN AT ALL FOR THE TAXPAYERS OF CALIFORNIA WHO PAY THE DAMN BILLS? NOT ONE BIT!!!!!!!!!! IT HAS BECOME A BIG DAMN GAME THEY PLAY AND WE ARE THE VICTIM PAWNS!
You might continue to emphasize to you cohorts how empty this county and state will be, except for all of the illegals and people financially dependent on the government, after more and more taxpayers leave for better states. Extreme taxes, poor schools, spreading poverty, increased crime and on and on. They have destroyed this state from the inside out and don’t even know it!
California has become the laughing stock of the country and Los Angeles City & County are right in there with them.
Well said. I couldn’t agree with you more!
My husband and I plan to retire somewhere outside of California because we won’t be able to financially sustain ourselves here on a fixed income. It saddens me to leave my native state, as most of our family and friends are here in CA. The political correctness and litigious endeavors in this state have reached the ‘insanity’ level on the barometer. It’s no secret, Cali is the freebie state…except for the working middle class, of course. They’re the ones footing everyone ELSE’S bills.
We’ve already made the move. It’s a sad state when we are forced to make these type of decisions because of politicians that don’t uphold the laws of our country. Good luck to you and your husband. Life is pretty good outside of California!
Thank you Supervisor Barger. I agree completely with what you stand for on this issue and all of the aforementioned comments from your constituents. My wife and I are also relocating outside California due to the way our state is being run. We have closed our dental practice after 28 years. Enough is enough. The well is quickly running dry. Keep up the good fight!
I’m glad Supervisor Barger is opposed to this. Anyone who is unsure if allowing illegal immigration is compassionate or not should search “Immigration Gumballs” on YouTube.
Any politician supporting illegal immigration should be thrown out of office if not thrown in jail. It is the law abiding American people who they are supposed to be representing not criminals.
