  1. We attended a race similar to this in Spain several years ago, and it was wonderful! We didn’t run, but we hitched a ride on a four-wheel drive vehicle and parked ourselves in the boondocks with our cowbells to cheer on runners when they needed it most. They came panting up a steep slope, surrounded by nothing but wide open spaces and cows, and you should have seen their responses when we started cheering and ringing our cowbells! It was like night and day. that race took place at night and finished from 9 p.m. until well after midnight. All the town’s residents turned out to wave torches and ring cowbells (of course!) as each runner came in. A “herd” of teenagers dressed as sheep, cows, pigs–you name it–ran the last few blocks with each runner, so no one finished alone. It was a memorable experience!
