The book series, Junga, The Dancing Yeti, was written by Valencia resident Stephen Tako.

Tako said he wrote the books to help children who may be the target of bullying because of their differences.

“Children with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression or gender identification issues are at a higher risk of suicide,” said Tako.

Bullying is a national issue, he said.

“The bullying of those children may be the tipping point to tragedy,” said Tako. “160,000 students stay home from school every day to avoid bullies. One out of four children are bullied either through cyber, mental, verbal or physical methods and 64 percent of victims never even report the incidents.”

Tako is striving to find new ways to reach young children and give them hope and encouragement through his books “The Dancing Yeti” and “Junga Meets Heidi.”

“Junga The Dancing Yeti book series teaches children relevant lessons about acceptance, bravery, doing the right thing, finding the good in others, having a positive self-image, courage and overcoming bullying,” said Tako.

The Dancing Yeti books revolve around the titular yeti Junga as he faces challenges and learns life lessons that Tako believes many children can learn from.

He is looking to raise $11,800 for a first edition print run of the books, to get them into the hands of Santa Clarita children and in schools around the country.

A Kickstarter to fund the publishing can be found here.

  1. A 14 year old girl just committed suicide a week ago due to bullying…..she lived on the street where I grew up………so Horrible…..No one suspected at all………so awful.

  2. This would be a great book. My daughter is being bullied at Hart HS. So far the schools response is less than adequate. We are still trying to get the school to provide is with a solution that will protect my daughter. It seems like there are more rights for the perpetrators than the victims.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
