The Castaic High School band and color guard placed first at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Championships.
This year marks the school’s second year of competing and with the addition of a brand new band director, Eugene Kim, and color guard coaches.
According to Rachelle Matheus, the music booster, the new additions to the team came with no previous experience.
Despite the changes and being second-time competitors, the schools’ band and color guard placed first at the SCSBOA Division 1A Championships.
This year’s band competition season has brought success to a number of Santa Clarita high schools, including Saugus High School’s win in Division 4-A at the Simi Valley Band Spectacular Field Tournament.
Valencia High School took first place in band, auxiliary and percussion in the 2-A Gold Division
Golden Valley High School was second in auxiliary and third in band and percussion in the 2-A Gold Division.
