In addition to family, friends and co-workers, several federal, state and local dignitaries attended the memorial ceremony.

The keynote address was given by Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey.

Don Knabe and Mike Antonovich, Los Angeles County Supervisors for the 4th and 5th district, respectively, gave additional comments.

The ceremony was held in Memorial Park at the Sheriff’s Training Academy and Regional Services (STARS) Center located in Whittier.

Members of law enforcement put on a musical performance at the ceremony. White doves were released to honor fallen officers.

This year’s ceremony honored four peace officers who were killed in the line of duty between 1909 and 1919.

Deputy Constable Charles De Moranville of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was killed while responding to a disturbance call in a Newhall saloon on Jan. 4, 1909.

Deputies Harry S. Guard and Emma Benson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were killed in a traffic collision in Pico Rivera on March 20, 1919.

Chief Henry P. Tracy of the Pomona Police Department was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a truck in Pomona on May 3, 1915.

The names of the four peace officers will be inscribed on the Memorial Wall along with the other 479 law enforcement officers to honor their sacrifice and dedication to their duty.

Baca accepted a torch that was delivered by members of law enforcement.

The torch was delivered after a three day run Memorial Torch Run, which totaled 339 miles.

The relay run ended at the Sherman Block Sheriff’s Headquarters Building.

The Memorial Flame was ignited at the Los Angeles County Peace Officer’s Memorial Wall as a tribute to the fallen officers.
