Do you find yourself struggling to master your relationships because of your perception of yourself or others– or even both? On KHTS AM-1220’s latest “My Conscious Dad” show featuring Santa Clarita life coach Alex Urbina and his daughter, Jazmine, the father-daughter duo talked about the ways you can change your perception of the world starting today.

Just like we occasionally need to clean the lenses on our glasses so we can see clearly, we also need to remember to be mindful of the “lenses,” or filters, we see life through, according to Urbina.
“What you’re seeing is not really the truth– you’re looking through a set of filters that might be flawed or they might be skewed,” he said. “You need to swap out the lens that you look and perceive life through. If you can swap those out, then there’s an opportunity for you to make some changes.”
If you see yourself as flawed, damaged or broken, the idea of “fixing” yourself or your life can seem daunting, so Urbina advises those individuals to think of it as filters you’re seeing through that simply need to be cleaned or adjusted.

“Clean those filters up so that you can see through some clear lenses and really see things for what they are– not what you’re predetermined to see because of your past and history and all the insecurities,” he said.
All great breakthroughs and growth happens when you decide to make some changes. Find yourself a coach, a mentor, a group or other components outside or your own box; to help you get yourself out of your own limiting perspectives, to create new empowering one’s.
While it can be easy to walk away from an inspirational experience ready to embrace change, sticking with your new-found clarity long-term can be a challenge.
The solution is easier than you might think– just show up. Showing up to a new solution seems to be the most challenging part for most people. Or start by picking the phone up and making the call, to seek a teacher, mentor or group.
“I always say this… The hardest part is just you showing up,” Urbina said. “After you show up and you get the value of what it’s about and you walk away feeling great about yourself, you feel empowered, you get some clarity– then the next hardest part is to show up again, and then again and again.”
Urbina used his personal experience recently committing to a healthier lifestyle as an example. The hardest part for him isn’t actually working out, it’s getting up and going to the gym, because once he shows up his mindset changes.
“There’s this whole process, this whole new world that unfolded for me inside of the process called ‘working out’ that I could not see from the outside looking in,” he explained. “I needed to dive in. I needed to jump into the process. Once I’m in the process from within, I can see all kinds of different possibilities I couldn’t see before.”
Whether you’ve found clarity at a self-improvement workshop, by reading a book, attending a fitness class or going to a church meeting, sticking with it can make all the difference in maintaining that clarity and changing your perceptions.
After hearing something so many times, you might catch yourself implementing it in your life later on without realizing you’re even doing it.
“Force yourself to go to the places where you’re going to get that clarity, and inside of that clarity and in that journey something magical is going to happen,” Urbina said, “where you’re hearing things, but all of a sudden, in real time, you’re actually implementing it… You’re not doing it from a conscious place. You’ve just heard it so many times that it kind of becomes natural in that process.”
