Pregnancy is a hard job for both soon-to-be parents, and many women can feel unsupported in the nine month process.

“The best way to support your spouse during pregnancy is to start with choosing the perspective that your pregnant wife is giving of her whole-self to bring a new baby into the world for the both of you,” said Alex Urbina, Santa Clarita Valley Life Coach, “and your part is not over.”
During the pregnancy, the responsibility on your end, as the husband, is to BE loving, compassionate, patient, tolerant, gentle and accommodating, Urbina said.
As the husband, it may be easy to forget about how hard pregnancy can be.
“You will have to constantly, and consistently remind yourself that you guys are a team in this process, and that she will be feeling and experiencing so much discomfort not only physically, but will be challenged both mentally and emotionally for the sacred moment of bringing your child or children into the world.”
You might have to stretch your current belief system to be able to see a new possibility of re-inventing yourself as a supportive father and or husband, Urbina said.
Communication, as always, is key to being successful at being there for each other.
“A great way to measure your results is to be pro-active and ask your wife or mother of your child what she needs from you,” Urbina said, “this might require for you to challenge some of your own selfish motives to need attention and put the focus on her.”
This might require for you to dig down deep and discover your greatness, the emotional intelligence that is needed to be the best husband to your wife, the best dad you can be to the mother of your child, according to Urbina.
“Your pregnant teammate will need more from you than you think, but just look at it like this; if you are willing to access this greatness to support your wife during the pregnancy,” Urbina said, “image what kind of growth you will be developing within yourself to be a daddy, not just a dad.”
