Total Financial Solutions staff are getting ready to collect donations for care packages in partnership with the nonprofit “For The Troops” at Light Up Main Street 2017 on Saturday.

“When we say future, what does that mean to you? It means the chance for you to… pursue happiness, life, liberty — does that sound familiar,” asks Arif Halaby, president and CEO of Total Financial Solutions. “There’s only one group in the United States that makes that happen, and it’s our military.”

For The Troops is an organization of volunteers with the goal of sending as many “We Care” packages to the military as possible. All items inside these packages are donated, and there are no limits to where they will send them to troops in need.

“For The Troops is an organization that has internal passion,” notes Halaby. “A lot of the folks there have kids or spouses that were serving, or some of them still are serving.”

Halaby and Tony DiRaimondo, a volunteer from For The Troops, urge Santa Clarita residents to donate this year at Light Up Main Street 2017.

“If you say, ‘Listen, I can’t bring anything but I want to donate $5, $10,’” explains Halaby, “we’ll have the ability to take those dollars directly to For The Troops.”

The packages to be sent are about six to eight inches tall, and Tony says it costs about $15 to ship each box.

“It’s incredible because For The Troops is our men and women,” says Halaby. “Yet the postal service doesn’t have a program in place that allows them to donate.”

Those interested in donating can find a wishlist that has been formed over the years by troops themselves at www.forthetroops.org, including things like lip balm, baby wipes, chewing gum, writing instruments, magazines and many other items.

“Come by here November 18 (during Light Up Main Street). In fact, if you happen to be here anytime this week, you can drop it off at Total Financial Solutions. We’re here from 8 a.m. at least until 6 p.m.,” concludes Halaby. “Drop it off at our office… We have a sample of the box that will show you what goes inside of it.”
