Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President Neal Thurman has stepped down from the position with plans on moving to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
Thurman was chosen as president for Magic Mountain in 2018 and saw the theme park through several ride openings, including West Coast Racers.
“After months of careful consideration, I have made the decision to leave Six Flags in order to live and work closer to my extended family,” Thurman said in a statement. “I leave with deep gratitude for the 25 years of career-building experiences and valued friendships I have had the great fortune to make with this company. I wish my colleagues all the very best.”
Before becoming park president, he spent seven years at Six Flags Magic Mountain beginning in 2007 as the Director of Operations
“Neal is one of the best and brightest minds in the theme park industry. He is an outstanding leader, whose knowledge of park operations is unmatched,” said Six Flags Senior Vice President of U.S. Park Operations, Thomas Iven in 2018.

Thurman, who was also park president of Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, has been with Six Flags for more than 25 years.
Six Flags Magic Mountian has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to park officials.
When the park is reopened, guests are going to be required to make a reservation before entering the park to prevent overcrowding and ensure at least a six-foot distance from other thrill-seekers, the company said.
A “cutting-edge” thermal imaging system is set to be in place to read all guest’s and team member’s temperatures as they enter the park, according to Six Flags.
A reopening date for Magic Mountian has not been announced as of Wednesday.

Hey, here’s an idea! Tear down Magic Mountain and put in a nice lake and water sports for local residents here! (Nobody here goes there anyway), and it just brings riff-raff from the Valley and elsewhere to our town, and we all know the issues they bring with them!
You tripping u must be old ?
Absolute garbage, probably racist, take
JJ, how could you pull “racist” outta the bag like that? You’re a nut-case! It’s always been that way! People come from out of this area and commit crimes here all the time before and after going to MM! You must be really young and ignorant saying that and know nothing about local law enforcement and what really goes down here in SCV!
Ok Ken,wheres ur wife Karen
I beg your pardon! What the heck is wrong with you! Lots of people go there and it is the best amusement park on CA! Shame on you!!!!!
That place is my childhood and a source of amazing roller coaster history and technology. You probably don’t know that it competes as one of the best amusement parks in the world, no exaggeration.
Ahaha I go there just not now because COVID-19
How many of your ideas actually made you successful? You want to take a successful theme park business and give it up for a lake? You sound crazy as hell and broke as a joke. Go back to college because you sound dumb.
Thurman’s career with Six Flags dates back to 1995 in Georgia. Over time, he spent several years at the Valencia amusement park: He served as the director of operations for seven years before leaving in 2014 to serve as the park president at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Two years later he relocated to New Jersey as Six Flags Great Adventure’s park president and then returned as president of Magic Mountain in 2018.
