  1. According to Illinois “Jussie’sLaw” – False reporting or a Prank is not a crime – do the Liberal thing and let the 2 kids go w/out charges. They don’t even need to Apologize!!!!!

    • Do you have children? Have you taught them the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong? How does the police force know that it’s a “prank” call? There are a lot of people who have lost their lives because of calls like this and you don’t think they should get any punishment??!! Not to mention all the law enforcement that goes out on these calls and the time spent!!!
You sir are a total idiot so just shut the hell up and let the officers do their job while you sit on your ass at home!!!! END OF STORY

    • At John Ellingwood this is not Illinois we are in California & two of my sons go to Canyon. I can not describe the sickening feeling & wave of nausea that rolled over me when I got the text that both my sons school was on lockdown due to a threat. After all the recent school shootings this was not a “joke”. They not only scared a lot of people (parents rushed to pick up students even after the lockdown was lifted) they wasted students learning time & the valuable time of the SAnta Clarita Sheriff’s & the swat team. You must be a child to have an opinion as immature as the two students detained.

    • People were actually terrified and i”m sure many had panic/anxiety attacks. There were also parents outside crying. This was genuinely not funny. These kids should stay there.

    • I’m a student at Canyon and let me tell you it was absolutely HORRIFYING hearing that we were on hard lockdown in the middle of class. Then seeing the swat team pull up to our school with HUGE assault riffles. Those kids SHOULD be arrested and SHOULD do more than just apologize. Imagine sitting in class learning like every regular day and hearing on the intercom a shaky terrified voice yelling at us to go into lockdown immediately and to be silent. THAT IS NOT A JOKE!!! I was terrified!!! I didn’t get to see my mom that morning or my dad since my brother took me to school. I texted both my parents telling them how much I loved and appreciated them because I didn’t know how it was going to play out. You are sick for thinking that what they did was okay. Get a reality check and put yourself in other peoples shoes

  2. This isn’t Illinois. Would Jussie’s Law still apply here in California?

  3. I, as a student of Canyon High, know one of the kids rumored to be involved and honestly I am not surprised. He does not seem to be the type to think ahead about his actions.

To view the situation objectively, it must be noted that someone must pay for the emergency responders’ time and the distress this caused students and faculty. Realize that many students and staff feared the worst, feared for their lives due to ignorance of the true situation. Many students went home after the lockdown because they felt unsafe on campus or their parents felt so. In some cases it ought to have triggered an emotional/mental breakdown among a few students.

This behavior cannot be met without opposition. I am not suggesting the students involved should face severe, essentially “life-destroying” punishments. However, it would behoove us to understand the slippery slope this may promote: Others may see that such pranks or empty threats go unpunished, and then they follow through on a similar deed, when they just think it is “funny.” We deter people from speeding on the street by the possibility of receiving a ticket, so why should there not be a deterrence from prank calling the police with a threat?

Most students did not, and still do not know the details of the situation. I got most of my information from other students, and as such, credibility is obviously very lacking. What I do know is that it was a prank, and what teachers have said and various rumors seem to confirm that. I saw this kid walk past in the morning and then he was not there in 7th period (in which we both have track practice). I have heard, yes by rumor, but from several accounts, over and over the same story, and so I am inclined to believe it, although with a grain of salt. Many students saw it as worse than it truly was. When the announcer came onto the PA system, her voice quavering as she announced the lockdown, few students really knew what was going on. The parents feel the same stress, praying their children are okay.

Those not completely in the loop can misunderstand the situation, and shake it off as a dumb prank that no one need be held accountable for in a legal sense. It’s just a prank, bro. However, “pranks” like this display a general disregard for their peers. And sure, the students may be sorry for doing this. They are sorry that they got caught, though, not that they committed such a damaging deed.

  4. Is this liberal paradise any different from that one?

  5. As a student, it is NOT okay WHATSOEVER to scare innocent children and making them falsely believe that their school is in danger as well as their lives. This drill was taken very seriously by students and staff and whoever jokes around about killing children and shooting up schools is sick and disgusting. What makes it okay to do that? Nothing.
