California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a multi-car collision on Highway 14 believed to be caused by a wrong-way driver, officials said Friday night.
Sheriff’s Station officials assisting the CHP investigation reported a car tried to get on the freeway heading the wrong way on the northbound exit of Highway 14, near Golden Valley Road.
Sheriff’s Station deputies received report of a man driving erratically around 7:19 p.m. within city limits.
The man was driving a Honda Civic, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
Deputies coordinated a search with CHP officers for the man, who was stopped by CHP officers at 7:26 p.m. after he entered Highway 14 heading in the wrong direction.
The driver’s vehicle reportedly collided with another vehicle, causing property damage but no reported injuries, according to CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy.
Several collisions were reported around Placerita Canyon Road exit on Highway 14, possibly in connection with the incident.
Sheriff’s Station and CHP officials did not have the identification of the man, and it’s not known if the driver was taken into custody.
Officials with the Newhall office of the California Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to phone calls requesting comment Friday.
One person was transported to the hospital as a result of the collisions that occurred, according to fire officials. At least four cars were reportedly involved in collisions, but officials said as many as 10 were pulled over on the freeway.
No serious injuries were reported.
The incident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
