“Today, we lost an amazing, wonderful, selfless, sweet soul of man to a senseless act of violence in the Las Vegas Harvest 91 Festival shooting,” stated a GoFundMe page created by longtime neighbor and friend Leah Nagyivanyi. “To say we are devastated by this loss is an understatement.”

A father of five and grandfather of one, Phippen owned the remodeling and repair company JP Specialties in Santa Clarita, and enjoyed camping with his family and friends at the beach, in the sand dunes and at Lake Havasu.

“If you didn’t know John you surely missed out,” Nagyivanyi said. “He had a heart that was larger than life and a personality to match. You felt like you knew him for years the first time you met him. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life and having fun doing it. He had your back from the moment he met you… Even if you were someone he had never met before but were in need, he was there for you.”

The GoFundMe page has a goal of raising $10,000 to help his children with immediate expenses. After losing their mother three years ago, Phippen’s five children have been left parentless following this tragic incident.

“They need our help with some of the expenses involved in laying him to rest and picking up the pieces of their lives that have been shattered by this tragedy,” Nagyivanyi said.

“He was a good man and (had) a smile that would light up a room,” said Thomas Polucki, a close friend. “He liked to sing while he worked. We did a lot of projects together… He’s (an) amazing soul and he will be missed.”
