Los Angeles County, Santa Clarita Gas Prices On The Decline

Los Angeles County and Santa Clarita gas prices are on a declining trend, officials said.

Amid the declining United States stock market, high demand for gasoline and uncertainty because of COVID-19, gas prices are declining, according to an official statement from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

One of the reasons gas prices are going down is the oil dispute between Saudi Arabia and Russia, according to Doug Shupe, spokesperson for AAA.

“Global demand is slumping as countries are facing quarantine,” Shupe said. “It’s hard to forecast where prices are going… There are some stations where folks can find fuel under three dollars a gallon.”

The current price for regular-grade gasoline in Los Angeles County is $3.32 for a gallon, which is about seven cents more than the current California average of $3.25 for a gallon of regular-grade gas, according to AAA.

The current California average is also higher than the current national average of $2.17 for a gallon of gas.

Los Angeles County’s average gas price one month ago was $3.75 per gallon, almost 43 cents higher than the current county average. One month ago, the California average was priced at $3.49/gallon, about 24 cents more than the current California average.

“The national gas price average is 13 cents cheaper on the week and nearly 20 cents less than the beginning of the month. These are significant decreases in just 7 and 16 days,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “AAA expects gas prices to continue trending cheaper, with the high likelihood of the national average hitting $2/gallon before the end of March.”

All gas prices and averages used in this report are based on regular-grade gasoline prices reported by AAA.

  1. Im a little shocked to see it has taken this long for prices to decline. Maybe this is the upside of the Trump Virus.

    • The price only goes up immediately to coincide with a market change but always lags the market when it goes down. Note the difference in price from LA County to the rest of the country; over a dollar per gallon!
