Officials from the luxury Santa Clarita senior living community Oakmont of Santa Clarita celebrated the grand opening of their model apartments recently, and have started a waitlist for those still interested in becoming residents.

More than 200 community members, including the “founding families” who have already pre-leased an apartment, joined Oakmont staff at the end of September for a champagne toast, tour, food and music.
“We’re really trying to get our depositors and founding families to know each other so that by the time we move in, they’re neighbors and it’s a community,” said Executive Director Margie Veis.
Those who attended the celebration had the opportunity to see a model “Pine” apartment, which is a studio apartment with a pony wall to divide the living area from the bedroom area.
“I know a lot of women, they don’t want to walk into a room and make it feel like a hotel room; they want their bedroom to be private,” Veis said. “So it’s set up as kind of a living room and then the bedroom on the other side of that pony wall.”

“Pine” apartments in the Traditions Memory Care wing of the community can also be used for shared rooms, helping give residents privacy through the pony wall while lowering the cost of living.
Residents can enjoy 10-foot high ceilings with crown molding and granite countertops, as well as a non-stick vinyl flooring in the bathrooms that has the look of hardwood floors and is designed to automatically turn on the light when a person takes a step onto the floor, helping prevent falling in the dark.
Showers also have built-in shower benches that can be folded away, and two shower heads for standing or sitting.
The wood-burning pizza oven and chicken rotisserie rack for the dining hall were both recently installed, and the concrete has also been poured in the outdoor dining area.
Oakmont officials also recently purchased a wheelchair-accessible bus for excursions like a scenic drive to the Ventura Harbor for a walk on the pier or an outing to a local restaurant. Plans are also in place to have a Cadillac for personal chauffeur services to destinations like the doctor, the bank and more.
While pre-leased apartments are mostly full about two months before Oakmont’s anticipated opening date in January 2016, local seniors can now sign up for a waitlist to be part of a group Oakmont officials are calling “future families.”
“If you have a loved one and you’re thinking about making a move to Oakmont, please come meet with myself or my team, have a private tour of the models and you can get on that waitlist,” Veis said. “If you’re not ready to move right now, that’s great because that will give you time. We’re not going to open until January, and there’s a possibility that you get on that waitlist (and) it might not be until March. … So it’s being proactive.”
