The owner of a Santa Clarita auto body shop is talking about the common problem of sun damage to a vehicle’s paint as temperatures continue to heat up this spring.

“When the sun damage gets it, that means there’s water that’s soaked in there,” said Cesar Ranuschio of Body Shop 661.

Instead of just painting over damaged areas, Ranuschio noted that it’s important to follow a repair process to fix the issue long-term.

“You need to grind it down to bare metal, seal it, primer it and then paint it, because if not, you’ll start getting marks and it will start getting messed up right away,” he said.

If the sun damage is only in one particular area of the vehicle, Ranuschio noted that the color will dictate if only the affected area should be repaired.

“If it’s white or black, solid, you can isolate it,” he said. “But if it’s metallic, you have to blend (it) for the color to match, because if not, if you just do that one line, you’ll be able to see the shades.”

“It depends on how picky you are too,” Ranuschio added. “If you have a car that’s older, it might not be worth it.”
