Santa Clarita Pest Control Company Explains How To Get Rid Of Indian Meal Moths For Good

Indian meal moths invaded your kitchen cabinets and storing nests? These pests are easy to identify if they are camping in stored meals or grains and they can fly.

“Oftentimes the Indian meal moth is confused with termites by laymen who don’t know the difference between flying ants, small moths, or termites,” Cardon Ellis from Unipest Pest Control said.

Indian meal moths flutter the same as termites which can be easily mistaken unless it stays in pantries where food is stored, Ellis said. If you happen to catch one in a bag or a food bag, then you can identify if it is an Indian meal moth.

The first step on getting rid of the pests is to find all the food that has been infested with the Indian meal moths. You’ll be surprised at what you find so make sure you are looking thoroughly and effectively in every food source.

“Usually it’s some cereal box; some bag of flour; it’s some bit of dried lasagna or noodles,” Ellis said.

When going through the food bags of possibly infested pests, flip the bag upside down to search for any larvae or cocoons. Do not forget to throw out the food right away if you come across any.

“I once found larvae inside a popcorn bag that was sealed and the customers response was extremely surprised,” Ellis said.

The next step is to use organic chemicals or essential oils such as EcoVia. It may be slow but if you prefer something faster, then you can use CB-80, CB-40, or any synthetic aerosol. Make sure it is labeled to treat the pests you want to eliminate.

Spray this along the cracks and crevices in the infested area such as the cabinets. Use gloves to protect your hands and any proper equipment for this treatment. These sprays have low toxicity and pet friendly.
