Outcry After Announcement Proposing Changes To Disney Disability Policy

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are facing fire from a group representing guests with disabilities regarding the changes coming to its Disability Access Service (DAS) program.

The group of Das Defenders wrote a letter to Walt Disney Company executives and started a petition urging the company to reserve recent updates to the program.

The changes would limit assistance to only theme park visitors with developmental disabilities like autism and other neurodivergent disorders.

The new policy takes effect on Tuesday, June 18, at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California and Monday, May 20, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

DAS Defenders notes that the new policy excludes guests who are cancer patients (including childhood cancers), veterans and survivors with PTSD, narcoleptics, POTS sufferers, multiple sclerosis patients, individuals with Parkinson’s, ALS and more.

The popularity of DAS has increased over the past few years, likely due to social media “Disneyland line hack” videos that show guests how they can use the program to skip the line without paying for the Genie+ service.

The DAS group is requesting that Disney revise the DAS program in order to include a diverse range of disabilities, not just developmental disabilities, incorporating the option to provide documentation, among other things.

  1. If there weren’t so many “scum balls” in our midst who fake disabilities, Disney wouldn’t have to resort to these measures. No good deed – or policy – goes unpunished.
