Bridge To Home Homeless Shelter Approved By Santa Clarita Planning Commission

The City of Santa Clarita Planning Commission approved the proposed Bridge to Home permanent homeless shelter in Saugus during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

Approved by the Santa Clarita Planning Commission, the proposed Bridge to Home permanent homeless shelter is planned to be built on the northeast terminus of Drayton Street in Saugus.

“We are privileged in bringing this Bridge to Home vision to reality,” Planning Commission Chair Dan Masnada.

Bridge to Home’s proposal for permanent housing is described as a construction of an approximately 18,680 square-foot, 35-foot tall, two-story building located at 23000 block of Drayton Street in Santa Clarita.

The ground floor is designed to include a front lobby, intake areas, offices, restrooms, kitchen, dining area and resident lounge. The second floor would contain three 20-bed dormitories (two dormitories for men, one for women), restrooms, showers and laundry facilities.

Additional eight family units would be provided within the building to accommodate four people per unit.

Proposed amenities include parking facilities, fire department access, ADA path of travel, resident recreation areas, and secure gating of the property.

Bridge to Home temporarily moved its 60-bed shelter operations to the Newhall Community Center in March of 2020 to allow for more social distancing between clients.

“This is a long time coming and I congratulate the Bridge to Home folks for the service that they’ve provided,” said commissioner Tim Burkhart, “and with that small accolade I will move that we approve…”

The Bridge to Home plans were approved unanimously by the Santa Clarita planning Commission, Tuesday night.

All activities associated with the homeless shelter are expected to take place entirely within the new building, unless otherwise approved within the permit, according to city documents.

  1. Will the inhabitants have any work responsibilities? Will they be taught any skills, English, reading, manners, modern behaviors, etc.? Will they be required to chip in their welfare, SS, SSD, food stamp monies?

  2. Thank God I am with in a year on getting out of here! The homeless are ONLY around because you all keep feeding them quarters and food…soon you all will realize how you created this mess in SCV!

  3. Wait until all of the illegals coming across the border, thousands every day, make it up here. This shelter will be overflowing!

    • You ignorant fool. American people on welfare usually take up these beds. Most undocumented people work for their money, they don’t mooch off of taxpayer money. They also pay taxes. Educate yourself.

      • Amy, you’re an ignorant excuser! Illegal Aliens(PC called undocumented, to fool and down grade a crime/behaviors). Yes, they pay sales/gas taxes but not the other other taxes that decent/honest Americans pay! With all the Liberals & the puppet Biden, they’re doing their best to create more taxpayer handouts to uneducated/low skilled/non-English speaking criminals/resistors that don’t want to assimilate by USA laws/behaviors and Only want USA $$$ and want to live/behave like their primitive countries! We need to help them not coddle & excuse/allow them to not improve/modernize at the taxpayers expenses!

  4. The prisons won’t be overflowing, because Liberals, Gas-Con, Newsom, Garrshity, Biden, etc. will increase Sanctuary Cities, raise taxes and give them welcome home baskets, safe spaces, more taxpayer checks and free services without assimilation to the onc wonderful USA

  5. Bridge to home has already been providing 60 beds for these services for decades. It’s just a better facility now than the mobile units that have been in this same location with the addition of family units instead of having to rent motel rooms.
