Burlington plans to open a store at the former JOANN Fabrics in Santa Clarita.

The discount department store plans to open about 100 new locations by the end of 2025, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Kristin Kendrick Wolfe told USA TODAY in June.

The New Jersey-based retailer has over 1,100 stores across 46 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.

Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, signed an agreement earlier this year to assume the lease for the Santa Clarita JOANN Fabric location. The lease transfer took effect on June 1, 2025, with Burlington paying a “cure amount” of $35,041 to finalize the deal, according to reporting by The Real Deal.

Started in 1943 as a single fabric store in Cleveland, Ohio, JOANN was a prime retailer for sewists, quilters, crocheters, crafters and other creative enthusiasts for more than 80 years.

No date has been shared for a possible opening date for the Santa Clarita Burlington location.
