Jorge Herrera passed away on Friday after suffering a medical emergency at home, leaving behind a grieving family that is now seeking community support through GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
In the wake of the unexpected loss, Jorge’s family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help ensure he receives what they describe as an honorable burial alongside his father.
“We want to honor his memory by giving him an honorable burial alongside his father, as he would have wanted,” the family wrote on the GoFundMe page. “The funds will go directly to his burial costs, helping us cover the expenses and ensure he is laid to rest with dignity and love. Your support will make a meaningful difference during this difficult time.”
According to his brother, Adolfo Herrera, Jorge went to bed Thursday night and woke up around 3 a.m. Friday, struggling to breathe. Family members immediately sprang into action, with his brother Eric performing CPR while his brother Luis called 9-1-1.
Jorge was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors worked to save him for about 40 minutes before he died on his 33rd birthday.
Their goal is to raise $40,000, and they are currently at 72% of their goal thanks to the support of patrons on GoFundMe.
“We are extremely grateful for any help. Our hearts are broken, but we know he was beloved by all who met him. He would appreciate the kindness and generosity of those who help us give him the farewell he deserves,” writes the family on their GoFundMe
Overall, Jorge’s family remembers him as a good man who “had a love for his family, and he was a wonderful uncle to my kids and a great brother. He was a great example of what a Godly man is to his family,” states Adolfo.
Those wishing to support Jorge’s family as they navigate their loss can donate to their fundraiser.
“My brother Jorge Herrera was a man who loved Jesus Christ more than his own life, and his faith was the foundation of everything he did. On his birthday, God took him home, granting him the gift of eternal life.”
“He was preparing for a wedding, looking forward to a new chapter surrounded by loved ones, but now we find ourselves preparing for a funeral instead. The sudden change has left our family heartbroken and facing unexpected expenses.”
