Food 4 Less In Canyon Country To Close By End Of March

The Food 4 Less in Canyon Country is set to close later this spring, with plans to reopen under a new banner.

The Food 4 Less at 19200 Soledad Canyon Road is expected to close by the end of March as it rebrands into a Ralphs location, a manager at the current store told KHTS Radio. Both grocery chains are owned by Kroger.

Employees were recently informed of the change, the manager said, and were told they would have the option to transfer to other Food 4 Less or Ralphs locations in the area.

No layoffs were announced as part of the transition.

Kroger has not yet released additional details about exact timelines on the closure and reopening or what changes customers can expect once the Ralphs opens.

  1. Fred Meyer would be great 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

    • Kroger-owned Freddy Meyer would be great – but Kroger’s will not open Freddy Meyer in California.

The one and only Freddy Meyer that ever operated in California was located in Chico and closed over 30 years ago in 1995.

The best you can hope fore is one of Kroger’s Marketplace stores under the Ralphs banner and modeled off of Freddy Meyer. It could be a conversion of a big box store previously operated by another retailer.

Kroger’s just doesn’t have the stomach any longer to open new, built from the ground up stores in California.

Expensive real estate and construction costs plus rich, outdated union bargaining agreements make Kroger’s stay far away from building/opening any brand new stores in California.

Once Ralphs moves into the Food 4 Less space, Ralphs will have operated stores at 3 of the 4 intersections at Whites Canyon and Soledad Canyon!

Expect a quick remodel to add full-service bakery, deli and full-service meat/seafood departments, with an extensive remodel down the road adding floral, Starbucks and possibly a pharmacy.

  2. There is a Ralph’s directly across the street at Soledad & Whites already. What will happen there?

    • The Ralphs store (opened as Hughes Family Markets) will close and move into the current Food 4 Less location.

My hunch is that another grocer will not move in and the space will be carved up among other retailers.
