GoFundMe Set Up For 19-Year-Old Hart Grad Killed While Helping Brother From Overturned Vehicle

In the aftermath of a fatal 14 Freeway crash near Acton early Sunday morning, the family of a 19-year-old Hart High School graduate has set up a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses.

Juan Hernandez Miranda had been in a car driving on the southbound 14 Freeway with his older brother and a friend, when they lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to flip near Escondido Canyon Road.

Hernandez managed to extricate himself from the rolled-over vehicle and help his brother out as well, but was tragically killed by a passing vehicle that drove through the scene, his older sister Valery Sandoval wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“After the crash they were fine. They were all fine. Juan was standing in the emergency lane when the car that hit him just drove through,” said Sandoval in an interview Tuesday. “Then they just left. The car that hit him just left the scene. We don’t know who did this.”

A Santa Clarita native and Hart High School Alumnus, Hernandez was on his way to becoming a graduate of College of the Canyons, according to his family.

Hernandez was described as a loving, caring young man who was always there to support his loved ones, a loss that is keenly felt by his family.

“Juan, he always cared for people, he was always willing to help others and he was very cheerful. Always smiling,” said Sandoval.

Sandoval is pleading with the public for anyone with knowledge of the crash to come forward.

The California Highway Patrol investigation into the crash remained open as of Monday.

  1. Whomever did this needs to step up and pay the price for killing this young man. Now they are felons.

    • Tired of ignorant drivers

Nowhere in the article does it say the person fled !! Its a reminder to ignorant people to stay in your car with the seat belt on because there’s other ignorant drivers in a hurry and will hit you going 80 mph you will see stupid people standing on the freeway way over a minor fender bender in the carpool or fast lane !!

    • It says and I quote, “ Then they just left. The car that hit him just left the scene. We don’t know who did this.” If only you could read.

  2. The driver that struck Mr. Maranda did in fact stop at the scene of the collision. He stopped a few hundred feet from where the overturned vehicle was and walked back to assist at the scene.

    • Please be advised that Leslie’s statement issued on Nov. 17, 2020, at 6:17 pm is a false statement. This matter is still under investigation. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Juan Hernandez Miranda.
